About this event

**Please note, our quota is now full for the following regions: London, South East, Scotland. We will no longer be confirming schools registering from these regions.**

What is a Virtual STEM Day?

A virtual STEM day is where your school can join us online to engage in some exciting engineering design and make projects. Hosted by a team of education officers from our HQ in Leamington Spa, each school can ask the presenter questions about the project and see all the brilliant work produced by students from other schools participating in the STEM day.

We will supply each school with all the equipment and materials required for the project and guide your students through the engineering cycle of planning, creating, testing, and improving.

What is the RAF Glider Challenge?

The RAF Glider Challenge is a free half-day workshop for state-funded Primary schools throughout the UK. The workshop is designed for students in Years 4-6 (P5-P7 in Scotland; Years 5-7 in NI) to take part, and we will be providing a maximum of 15 kits to each participating school.

This project has been planned for students working in groups of 2 (max. 30 students); however should your school restrictions not allow this, the 15 kits can be used individually (max. 15 students). Alternatively, should your school allow it, you can split your students into groups of 3 (max. 45 students).

Students will design and build three gliders - each being unique in their form, shape and constructed with different materials. They will then be encouraged to test these gliders following advice from their teachers - seeing and learning how different factors such as balance, wing-shape, and other forces act together to impact flight success.

How can we sign up?

The RAF are funding this for 100 different schools to take part, all throughout the UK.

Schools must be state-funded and primary, and should plan for their students to work as individuals or in small groups. Each school will receive a maximum of 15 kits to be split accordingly.

There are limited places from each UK region, as such we are implementing a 2-stage process for schools to be confirmed onto any given event.

Please register your school place using the 'Select A Date' button above, being sure to select only your first choice of the date your school can attend. During this registration form, you will be asked to also provide alternative dates your school could attend, should your first choice not be available.

Provided your region is not fully booked, we will be in touch as soon as possible to confirm your school's place. Should your region be fully booked, we will offer you alternative dates based on your registration form preferences if available.

Since we only have limited places for each event, we kindly request that you register your school's interest for one event only - this is to allow other schools to have the opportunity to be involved.
